About

What is Garage Grown Gear?

We connect you to independent companies making innovative, high-performing and wildly cool outdoor gear. We scout for the innovators of today and the icons of tomorrow. We tell stories of individuals with ideas. We do this through an Online Magazine, Directory and soon a Store.

The Online Store is curated, featuring the very best independent outdoor brands. We invite you to sign up for our newsletter for updates on our Store launch.

The story of the outdoor equipment, clothing and nutrition companies we work with follows a similar thread. An individual goes on an adventure and thinks, “Wouldn’t it be cool if …” This individual – often an engineer, designer or other professional – then returns home, begins tinkering and, behold, a business is born.

We are founded on the idea that America has a history of great inventions from humble beginnings. Google, Harley Davidson and Whole Foods were born in a garage. Clif Bar launched from a Kitchen and Patagonia the trunk of a car.

Founder Amy Hatch’s own experience growing a business from a garage sparked the idea for GarageGrownGear.com. In 2011, Hatch founded Jackson Hole Packraft & Packraft Rentals Anywhere. To get a behind-the- scenes look at her garage-based business, check out this one-minute video

Online Magazine

The independent outdoor gear industry is intensely fascinating, beset by very unique opportunities and challenges. We tell the story of this industry and the people driving it in our Online Magazine through gear reviews, Q&As with the manufacturers, in-depth features and adventure tales from the field.

Directory

A huge hurdle in buying unique, high-quality outdoor gear is finding it. We make it easy by connecting you to brands through our Directory, searchable by product type, activity and business location. Businesses can create a free listing – our goal is a comprehensive directory. We also offer a Featured Listing that offers companies great exposure and the opportunity to include more detailed information about themselves, including a logo, more urls, and more tags.

Online Store

Stay tuned for phase 2 – an E-Commerce Store. In keeping with our mission of connecting you to garage grown companies, we plan to make finding, comparing and purchasing independently made outdoor gear that much easier through a one-stop shop.
