The rapture of being alive

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive … so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

I’m currently reading Broken Open by Elizabeth Lesser. The book is sprinkled with lovely and rich quotes. The above quote from Joseph Campbell particularly resonates with me. I kept it close to heart throughout the Fourth of July weekend. And savored the many moments when I felt deeply the rapture of being alive, from running over the Teton Mountains with wonderful friends to watching my daughter’s enchantment with a parade and fireworks.

Here is a taste of these moments …
